The Hungarian-born director Michael Curtiz is most known for what is considered his masterpiece, the 1942 award-winning film Casablanca. Set during World War II, the movie centers on a place called Rick's Café Américain, owned and operated by Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) who plays host to gamblers, thieves and refugees. In addition to Bogart, it starred Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains and Peter Lorre. Casablanca also got Oscar nominations for best actor (Humphrey Bogart), supporting actor (Claude Rains), cinematography, editing, and music.  Many consider the film one of the best American films of all time.
